Binary Armor Avionics Guard
Cybersecurity for Avionics and Critical Systems
Department of Defense (DOD) weapon systems are increasingly complex and integrated, requiring avionics and critical systems to be accessible to mission systems and other networks. Binary Armor avionics guard not only bridges these communication interfaces, but extends SNC’s patented technology to provide bi-directional security between Ethernet, avionics buses such as Military Standard-1553, and serial communications.
The Binary Armor avionics guard solution processes every byte of every message with a ruleset tailored to match aircraft and mission system operational logic. The ruleset leverages the Binary Armor message engine to provide data validation and state-based message processing with minimal latency, and data redaction or sanitization to support real-time data buses. Binary Armor avionics guard allows users to whitelist critical message traffic, to ensure only valid and safe data is written onto flight-critical message buses, and can monitor avionics inputs/outputs for operational state information. Binary Armor avionics guard provides a flight-hardened, lightweight, low-power avionics isolation solution to safely bridge mission networks and critical avionics.

Binary Armor avionics guard can be used in civilian or military aircraft to bridge mission and flight control systems, enforcing and controlling data flows so only authorized, safe, mission-critical information is shared between networks.
In-flight aircraft must be continuously connected to air traffic control through line-of-sight and satellite connections. Those connections, which open aircraft to cyberattacks, can be protected with the Binary Armor’s message analysis and enforcement capability that allows only safe data to be ingested by aircraft systems.
Aircraft software ranging from Lowest Replaceable Unit (LRU) firmware to map databases is frequently updated to improve performance. The Binary Armor’s blockchain capability validates software provenance through the supply chain, giving airlines and passengers confidence that software has not been altered en route from software OEM to upload on the aircraft.
