Utility Operations Cybersecurity Study

In March 2022, the Utilities Technology Council published a research article where 400 utility members answered a series of questions about cybersecurity’s strengths and weaknesses in the power industry. The overall finding was that “cybersecurity finally has a permanent seat at the table in planning key utility business and technology initiatives.” Key feedback from utility workers reveal how they viewed the state of cybersecurity in an OT (operational technology) setting. It’s clear that there’s still work that needs to be done in the cyber OT world across audits, funding, and implementation strategies. But there is hope – engagement at the executive level is growing and the power to impact change is anticipated.

The Binary Armor team is excited to be at the forefront of conversations and problem-solving the challenges facing OT cybersecurity. As we see grid modernization efforts spread across the country, you can bet the Binary Armor team is actively leading stakeholder engagements.

Here are a couple of graphs from the article that discusses utility workers perception of risks and when cyber professionals were invited in the planning stages of different programs.
